AAVC Women’s Membership.

The Ann Arbor Velo Club Women's Team is always looking to recruit new riders!

Do you like to ride a bike? Do you want to learn better bike handling skills, get more confident with riding in groups, and be able to ride faster? Then this is the group for you!

We ride together to develop fitness and racing skills, with a focus on helping our members grow confidence with their biking.

About us.

We are a diverse group of women dedicated to growing as cyclists and athletes. Our team includes everyone from the casual biker training for their first weekend tour to serious racers. We offer group rides and the camaraderie and support you need to push your riding to the next level! Interested in meeting us and learning more before you decide? Send us an email through the “contact us” section of the website to learn how you can join us on a ride to meet some of our members and ask them questions about our team!

Who rides with us.

Anyone is welcome! We have women with anywhere from 0 to 20 years of biking experience. Most live in Ann Arbor and the surrounding area, but we do have a few members who drive (or bike!) in from nearby townships.

What you need to ride.

Some women have newer expensive bikes, but many are on a used bike they found on Craigslist! We do require everyone to wear a helmet when they ride. The rest is up to you, but safety is very important to us when we ride in groups, so be prepared to stay focused, but have fun.

Train with us.

We have weekly practices, workouts, and sessions that teach bike handling skills. We have full club rides (not women’s only) and and women’s only practices led by our most experienced racers and riders.

Some of the handling skills we work on:

  • How to ride in a group safely

  • Corner at high speeds

  • How to safely handle incidental contact with another cyclist

  • How to emergency brake

For more information on our scheduled rides and practices, visit our Rides page.

Every week has at least one workout (usually the Monday night ride) that is no-drop and casual pace. Perfect for trying a ride and getting to know the team!
